Mavi akrep olarak adlandırdığımız akrep dünyanın en büyük türleri arasında kendisine yer bulmaktadır. Pandinus İmperator olarak adlandırılmakta olan mavi akrep dünyanın en büyük akrepleri arasında listenin ilk sırasında yer alır ve sadece ama sadece Batı Afrika’nın yağmur ortamlarında yaşam belirtisi gösterir. Rengi aslında adı gibi mavi değildir ve dünyanın pek çok akrep türünün sahip olduğu siyah bir renk sahibidir. Fakat mor ötesi ışığın altında masmavi olarak görünmektedir.

Mavi Akrebin Morfolojik Özellikleri

Bütün akrep türlerinde görüldüğü üzere mavi akrepte de arka bölümden uzamakta olan ve gövdesine doğru bir kıvrıma sahip bir kuyruk ve bu kuyruğun ucunda da bir iğne yer almaktadır. Kuyruğunun ucunda kendisine yer bulmuş olan bu iğne kırmızımsı bir renk sahibidir. Vücudu dört bölümden meydana gelmiş olan mavi akrebin her bölümde iki adet bacağı vardır. Vücudu yine türünden olan hayvanlarla aynı olarak tüylerle kaplıdır ve bunların titreşim sayesinde avlarını kolayca etkisiz hale getirirler.

Mavi Akrep Zehrinin Özellikleri

Diğer türdaşlarının zehri ile karşılaştırıldığında çok ilgin bir özelliğe sahiptir. Kanser hücreleri üzerinde iyileştirici bir özelliği bulunup bulunmadığı yıllardır araştırılmakta olup akrebin zehrinde mevcudiyet gösteren protein sebebiyle bu sorular kimi uzmanlar tarafından olumlu doğrultuda cevap bulmaktadır. Aynı zamanda mavi akrep zehrinin bazı tümör türlerini küçültebileceği de söylenenler arasındadır.
