Dezenfeksiyon ya da dezenfektasyon işlemi cansız ortamda yer alan bakteri endosporlaarı dışında tutulan patojen mikroorganizmaların yok edilmesi ya da üremelerinin önlenmesi işlemine verilen addır. Bu amaçla kullanılmakta olan kimyasal maddelere ise dezenfektan adı verilmektedir.

Dezenfeksiyon Nedir ve Nasıl Uygulanır?

Dezenfeksiyon sterilizasyon anlamına gelmemektedir. Sterilizasyon işlemi cansız ortamda yer alan patojen halde olan veya olmayan bütün mikroorganizmaların öldürülmesi işlemine verilen isimdir. Sağlıklı olduğu halde bile mikrop taşımakta olanların çok oluşu ve bulaşıcı olan hastalıkların belirli olmayan bir biçimde sıklığı sebebiyle dezenfeksiyon işleminin etkisi kısıtlı kalmaktadır. Dezenfeksiyon işlemi özellikle dolaysız ve büyük bulaşma risklerini sınırlandırmaktadır. Dezenfektanların ise etki ediş biçimi ışık ve ateş gibi fiziksel ya da mekanik bir şekilde gerçekleşmektedir. Üç değişik biçimde kullanılma şansı vardır. Gaz halde, sıvı halde ve katı veya kıvalımsı halde kullanılma yöntemleri mevcuttur. Dezenfeksiyon işlemi ya hastalık sırasında uygulanır ya da hastalığın sonrasında uygulanır. Hasta ile temas kurmuş ya da onun dokunmuş olduğu her şeye dezenfeksiyon işlemi uygulamak gereklidir. Kapalı alanlara dezenfeksiyon işlemi uygulanırken buhar yöntemi ya da püskürtülme şansı olan antiseptik durumdaki eriyikle yapılabilir. Eşya dezenfektasyonu ise genel olarak buharla veya kuru ısı ile çalışan aletlerle ya da dezenfektan içeriğe sahip gazlar aracılığı ile gerçekleştirilmektedir. Bildirilmesinin zorunlu olduğu hastalıklarda dezenfektasyon da zorunlu tutulmuştur.
